Service Description

INTRODUCTION The aims and objectives of Stage 1 Initial Training Programme are to provide personnel who have little or no experience of the Banksman and Slinger role with the basic knowledge of activities associated with the combined roles, and the safety and regulatory requirements of those activities. The Initial Training Programme allows the delegate to demonstrate basic Banksman and Slinger practical skills following instruction and demonstration by the training staff. This Training Programme aims to prepare the delegates for the next stage of the progression path to becoming a competent banksman and slinger, i.e., Stage 2: supervised workplace experience. OUTLINE  Introduction to lifting operations • Regulations & safety issues • Relevant documentation • Why is it important to plan lifting activities • Hazards associated with lifting operations  Lifting Equipment • The relation between banksman & slinger with crane operator & competent person • Commonly used types of crane operations • Color coding of lifting appliances and accessories • The SWL & WLL of lifting equipment • Permit to work system • Lifting of personnel by crane for work and transfer purpose  Preparing for the lift • Lifting plan & risk assessment • Toolbox talk • Identifying banksman & slinger for the lift • Weight identification & estimation of load • Tag lines • Determining the load-bearing capacity of the laydown area • Providing adequate access/working space/lighting  Carrying out the lift • Selecting appropriate lifting accessories • Conducting pre-user check • Correct positioning of personnel involved • Signs & barriers • Handover procedures  storing the work area • Post-user checks of lifting appliances & accessories • Post job debriefing • Clearing the work area • Reporting & recording the damaged equipment • Storage procedures for packing materials, lifting appliances & accessories • Disposal of any waste in relation to legislation and procedures DURATION  The Course Duration is Three Days. DESIGNED FOR The target group for the Banksman and Slinger Training Stage 1 training is for personnel wishing to become competent in the Banksman and Slinger role.
